Gazdik OT Goal Lift Saints to 1-0 Win Over C of I

CALDWELL, Idaho – Treasure Valley native Ylena Gazdik scored her first goal of the season Friday and it just happened to be golden.

The senior received the ball from freshman Charly Clements. She drove the ball to the top of the 18-yard box and hit a goal over the right side of the net, over the keeper's hands in the 92nd minute to give the Saints a 1-0 win to move to 7-3-1 on the season and 4-0-1 in Cascade Conference play.

"We made a few changes to start overtime and payed off to get us up the field," head coach David Thorvilson said. "Charly played a ball into Gazdik and she cut the ball into the top of the 18 and sent a floated ball over the keeper to the far post for the game-winner. We beat a very good team and I am excited to get out of here with a win."

The game of regulation was a defensive battle. Carroll held the advantage in the first half outshooting the Yotes 5-1. The second half, the College of Idaho held the advantage notching five shots while Carroll failed to get a shot off.

"It was a game of two halves," Thorvilson said. "We played well the first half even after starting a little slow and outshot them 5-1. The second half they really turned up the pressure and outshot us 5-0. Jamie made a huge 1v1 save half way through the second half."

The Saints looked to be out of sorts in the second half but survived the C of I onslaught.

Carroll has a travel day before returning to action Sunday against Rocky Mountain in Billings.
