Saints Fall to Whitworth 1-0 in Neutral Site Game

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Carroll College soccer fell to Whitworth University 1-0 Saturday in a neutral site game on the campus of Whitman University just outside Walla Walla.

"I was pleased with the performance considering we went to Billings, played a game, went home, then turned around and sat for eight hours on the bus to get here, all in the past few days," head coach David Thorvilson said. "Statistically we did a lot of things better than them but we didn't in the most important category."

The Saints doubled up Whitworth in both shots (16-8) and shots on goal (8-4) but the Pirates earned the stat that counted with a goal in the 82nd minute.

"We only allowed one shot during the entire second half but it was the one that counted," Thorvilson said. "We collapsed on her and she sent the ball curving away to the far post and there wasn't much Jamie could do about it. It would have been really hard to defend."

Megan McCart found her teammate Denai Vandam on backwards pass and Vandam sent in the prayer, which snuck in for the game winner.

Lexi Pyette tallied four shots including three on goal and Katey Friedt had three shots, including two on goal but the Saints couldn't find the back of the net.

Jamie Carter had three saves on the day but Whitworth University goalkeeper Sienna Tanner earned her keep with eight saves on the day and no goals allowed

The Saints fall to 1-3 on the season with each loss being by one goal.

The Saints are back in action tomorrow against their hosts Whitman College at 12 p.m. PST.
