Saints Fall Twice in California

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Carroll College volleyball team was swept twice in matches against second ranked Biola and Westmont at the first day of The Master's Labor Day Tournament in Southern California.

The Saints battled hard in both matches falling to Biola 25-19, 25-28, 27-25 and Westmont 25-22, 25-27, 25-23, but ill-timed mistakes were costly.

"We would get down, battle our way back and put ourselves into a position to win the set, then we would have a serving error or hit the ball out of bounds," head coach Moe Boyle said. "If one error turns into a kill instead of a hit out of bounds, it will change our confidence immensely. We need to get to point that we are comfortable taking chances."

Boyle knows that her young team is still growing together and today's results aren't unexpect for the first matches away from the PE Center.

"We are a combination of a few veterans with a big group of underclassmen and when you go on the road for the first time it is going to be rough," Boyle said. "We had very wide eyes today but we made strides that we didn't last week. There are a lot of small changes that are going to make a big impact starting tomorrow."

Freshman Emily Sullivan played an increasingly big role and head coach Moe Boyle sees her continuing to make strides.

"Emily Sullivan is playing very solid as a freshman," Boyle said. "Today she played all the way around the rotation and really doing a great job. She has made the transition to college ball very smoothly and I am excited to see her build on what she has done already."

The Saints play back-to-back matches tomorrow starting first with The Master's at 2 p.m. mountain followed by a match with CSU-San Marcos at 4 p.m.

"If everyone shows up, we can compete with anyone," Boyle said. "We are still trying to figure everything out but when we do I think we are going to be a dangerous team."
