SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Carroll College volleyball team lost two five-set matches in the second day of The Master's Labor Day Classic, falling to The Master's 25-19, 25-20, 23-25, 24-26, 16-14 and CSU San Marcos 25-20, 25-16, 23-25-17-25, 15-10.
Carroll lost the first two set in both matches only to rally back and to extend the matches.
"The truth is we had our chances and didn't follow through," head coach Moe Boyle said. "We dominated the fourth set against San Marcos and just didn't show up in the first part of the fifth set. "
Boyle noted that her team did a lot of things well but, as a young team, is still growing.
"We didn't put enough complimentary pieces together to win today," Boyle said. "The defense was stellar but our blocking needs to improve. We had some great serving but we had a lot of untimely errors. Those are things that will hopefully come together for us."
Boyle believes that the trip will help her team continue to gel together and get ready for the conference grind.
"We played 10-straight sets today and that is draining," Boyle said. "We hope that the trip helps us get into the travel mode because that is what conference will be. Most of all we know that we have a lot of room to grow."
The Saints are again on the road next weekend at the Five Points Bank Invitational hosted by Hastings College in Hastings, Neb.
