Carroll Women's Soccer Defeats EOU 2-1 in OT

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Carroll College Women's Soccer team defeated previously undefeated Eastern Oregon 2-1 in double overtime on a goal by Katey Friedt in the 103rd minute.

The Saints are now 6-3 on the season and 4-0 in Cascade Conference play. The win is the fifth-straight for the Saints.

"First and foremost it is great to get a conference road win but to do it in against an undefeated team to go 2-0 on the weekend and move to 4-0 in conference is pretty exciting," head coach David Thorvilson said.

The first goal in the game came well into the second half. Michaela Kueffler scored her second goal in as many weeks with assisted by Lexi Pyette. Pyette played it from the center and send it into Kueffler who sent it far post for the goal.

The Mounties answered with an equalizer in the 82nd minute. An EOU corner kick entered a scrum in the box and a Carroll defender fell down in the chaos leading to an opportunity for Zoe Anderson who punched the ball just past the fingertips of Jamie Carter.

In the two OT periods, the Saints outshot EOU 4-1 with game-winner coming on a rebound. Pyette was again in the action, she took a shot far post and the Mountie goalkeeper made the save but didn't get ahold of the ball. Friedt hit it to the back of the net for the game winner.

Pyette scored the game winner in Friday's match against Warner Pacific. Thovilson is excited about the great play of Pyette this season.

"Lexi is a real matchup problem for our opponents," Thorvilson said. "She is a pest to defend, an active player and she is getting results."

Another aspect to paying on the road is the hostile crowd. Saturday was louder than normal for the Saints.

"The football game ended just as the men were finishing up and a lot of fans made their way over to the watch our match," Thorvilson said. "It was a pretty crazy environment but our defense stepped up and we allowed just three shots on goal in that environment and held a team that has scored 42 goals this season to just one. I am pretty happy with the result."

The Saints outshot 14-11 but the Saints tallied nine shots on goal to the Mounties three.

The Saints now have a six-match home stand beginning with the College of Idaho on Friday, Oct. 2 at 3:30 p.m. at Nelson Stadium.
