Helena, Mont. – The College of Idaho's Jamiece Yizar scored in just the third minute of the match and the Yotes held on to defeat Carroll College 1-0 in women's soccer action and snapped the Saints five-match winning streak Friday afternoon at Nelson Stadium.
The Yotes scored in the third minute of the game when a ball deflected off of
Jamie Carter, directly to Jamiece Yizar for her 10th goal of the season.
College of Idaho goalkeeper Brittany Houghton faced an onslaught of Carroll shots but ended the day with nine saves and a shutout. Carroll outshot the College of Idaho 14 to 4, including 9 shots on goal to one for the Yotes.
"We let a goal in early that we normally don't allow and had 87 minutes to strike back but their goalkeeper played well and we struggled to find that finishing touch," head coach David Thorvilson said.
The Saints will look to take lessons from the match and make adjustments moving forward.
"When you are winning, sometimes you don't see what you are doing wrong, but a loss like this highlights those errors and we can learn from them and build on going forward" Thorvilson said. "We play in a tough conference and hopefully we can use this game to make us better".
Carroll doesn't get long between matches as they play Saturday against Rocky Mountain College in Helena. However, Coach Thorvilson has a veteran team that will be ready to go.
"Rocky is a big rivalry game for us and the players won't need any motivation for it," Thorvilson said. "We need to put together a good 90 minutes and finish strong this weekend".
Rocky Mountain will enter the game 6-2-1 on the season after beating the University of Great Falls on Friday, 1-0. The match will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Nelson Stadium.
