Pyette's Lone OT Goal Lifts Saints over Warner Pacific

PORTLAND – Lexi Pyette scored a lone goal in the 106th minute to give the Saints a 1-0 victory over Warner Pacific in the first Cascade Conference road game ever.

"Off of an 11 hour bus trip you just hope to win even if it is ugly," head coach David Thorvilson said. "We had a lot of shots that just didn't go into the but their goalkeeper made some nice saves and we needed 106 minutes to get the win."

The Saints outshot the Knights 18-2 including four shots to Warner's zero in the second overtime.

Pyette's goal came after a ball was played into the box and bounced around, in the ensuing melee Pyette hit the ball with her calf and the ball snuck into the net to end the game on the golden goal.

"It wasn't a very pretty goal but it went it in," Thovilson said. "We're 3-0 in conference now and that is a great start."

The Saints earned their fifth shutout on the season and move to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in Cascade play.

Jamie Carter now has a .600 goal allowed average on the season.

"Jamie wasn't challenged a whole lot today because our defense played very well," Thovilson said. But she made the saves when she needed to and that is what matters."

The Saints travel to play Eastern Oregon Saturday at 4 p.m. PST.
