Porras Tallies Two goals to push Saints to 4-0 win

Porras, Malouf, Wall all tally goals for the Saints,

HELENA, Mont. – Jose Porras scored two goals and Sam Malouf and Braden Wall tallied a goal each to lead Carroll College to a 4-0 victory over Northwest Christian in the first-ever Cascade Conference match for the Saints.

Porras got the Saints on the board very early with a goal in the fifth minute on the assist by Jonathan Taylor. Porras tracked down Taylor's long forward shot which found him alone, on the left side of the goal. He sent the ball across the keeper's face for the early 1-0 lead.

The second goal came on a header from Sam Malouf on a crossing free kick from Nathan Boone in the 27th minute. The perfectly placed assist found Malouf just a few yards in front of the goal between two defenders. Again the goal went right across the face of the keeper for goal number two.

The third goal came on a throw in from the left side of the goal. The ball found the middle of the box where it deflected off of a NCU defender before Braden Wall buried it in the back of the net from 20 yards out with jut over three minutes left in the half.

Carroll added the final goal in 78th minute when Alessio Georgiades pushed a centering ball forward to Porras who snuck the ball around the defender and the goal keeper for his second goal of the game. It was Porras' sixth goal of the season and the second multi-goal game of the year for the freshman.

On the defensive side of the ball NCU managed only one shot on goal for the entire match, which came in the 19th minute.  The Saints tallied 21 shots on the day, including 10 on frame.

It was the second shutout on the season for senior goalkeeper Conor Smith.

"It was a gut check. It was a gut check in the sense that we went down to Billings last week and really played under our level," Carroll coach Doug Mello said. "We came back, had a good week of practice, and whoever our opponent was, we were ready.

"I thought our passing was exquisite, at times," Mello said. "We could've probably broken them a bit quicker in the first half. We had a couple of nice chances at the post and a couple of diving headers that just missed. But to our credit, (NCU) never got a flow to the game, and we were ready to go."

The Saints (3-2, 1-0 CCC) return to the pitch Sunday at 1 p.m. to face Corban. The Warriors are 6-0 on the season and defeated the university of Great Falls 2-0 Friday.
