Carroll Softball Dominates Walla Walla

Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Carroll College softball team earned a dominant sweep of Walla Walla University Sunday, winning the first game 8-0 (five innings) and the second game 18-4 after scoring nine runs in the top of the seventh inning.
"Today was a great day to be a Saint,' head coach Aaron Jackson said. "We played two solid games and continued to have great, quality at bats. Walla Walla is a much improved team who, I believe, is beginning to turn the corner. I was proud of our players today as we rebounded from last weekend well."

The Saints scored twice in the top of the first inning and added runs in the second and third and exploded with four runs in the fourth inning.

On the mound, Megan Gipe was stellar. She pitched a four-hit shutout to earn the win. She was also 2-for-3 with a RBI from the plate.

Allison Bayer was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Kinley Pope went 1 –for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Saints.

In the second game, the Saints again jumped out to a two-run lead in the top of the first inning but this time the Wolves tied the game in the bottom of the inning.

Carroll regained the lead in the second inning with one run, two runs in the third and two runs in the fifth. WWU added a run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Carroll lead to 7-3 but the Saints added two runs in the sixth and nine runs in the top of the seventh to take an 18-3 lead.

The Wolves managed one run in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 18-4 but the Carroll lead was too much to overcome.

Bayer again led the way on the offensive end. She was 4-for-6 with six RBIs. Haley Adams was 3-for-5 with four RBIs.

MacKenna Landis struck out seven in her complete game win.

The Saints and Wolves meet again tomorrow in a doubleheader to close out the series.

"We look forward to getting back on the field tomorrow," Jackson said "We are in good position to win the series and have a chance for a series sweep which is exciting."

The first game begins at 10 a.m. with the second game afterward.
