HELENA, Mont. – The No. 21 Carroll College women's basketball team has locked up a home game in the upcoming Frontier Conference playoffs but that doesn't mean Saturday's game against Rocky Mountain doesn't mean anything.
The Saints are one win away from locking up the third seed in the tournament. The third seed will avoid a possible semifinal trip to play Westminster, a team that has won 12-straight games since the 55-50 home loss to Carroll in the opening game of the Frontier Schedule.
Outside of the game the Saints will honor seniors
Bailey Snelling and
Kalee Junkermier and redshirt junior
Alison Sullivan who will graduate this spring and not return for her final year of eligibility.
This group has a special bond with head coach
Rachelle Sayers. They were freshmen during her first season at the helm at Carroll.
"We're really excited to celebrate with these three seniors," Sayers said. "We all came here together. These guys have stuck with me and together we have all grown and gotten better."
Snelling is Carroll's leading scorer and Junkermier has had a tremendous senior season.
"Bailey is one of the most exciting players that Carroll College has seen," sayers said. "She had taken over and won games single handedly. Kalee has had an All American season, she is shooting the ball so well right now and those two just don't make many mistakes. I feel very confident when those two are in the game."
Sullivan is the eighth leading scorer on the team but her impact has been huge on the defensive end for the Saints and on the development of sophomore forward
Baylee Watson and freshman center
Cassidy Hashley.
"Alison has become such a great leader," Sayers said. "She is one of our best defenders and has been such a great mentor for our young post players. I'm so proud of all three of them."
The Saints are in a tie with UGF for third place in the conference standing at 8-5 in conference and Rocky sits in a tied for sixth with a record of 3-10 but the Saints won by just two points against the Bears in Billings.
The Saints are seventh in the conference in scoring at 61 points per games but are third in conference at 57 points per game allowed.
Rocky Mountain sits at fifth in the conference in both categories. Whitney Mitchell is the only Rocky player that averages double-figure scoring at 15.3 PPG.
The Saints and Bears tip off at 5:30 p.m.
