Saints Softball Opens Weekend with 7-1 Loss to Yotes

CALDWELL, Idaho  – The Carroll College softball team fell to No.21 College of Idaho 7-1 after a stellar performance by Yote pitcher Cortni Pena.

The College of Idaho scored three runs in the third and three runs in the fifth and combined with five innings of no-hit pitching from Pena gave the Saints a 6-0 lead before the Saints got on the board in the sixth.

With two outs in the top of the sixth inning, the Saints loaded the bases on two walks and an error. The first and only
Saints hit came from Megan Gipe on a single through the left side to drive in Paige Blake and cut the deficit to 6-1.

The rally ended on a popup on the next at-bat.

The College of Idaho tallied a run in the bottom of the sixth to regain a six-point advantage.

The Saints went down in order in the top of the seventh to end the game with a 7-1 loss.

"Today was a tough day," head coach Aaron Jackson said. "I felt that we played well but we just couldn't get the timely hits and we let a few effort balls get away from us. The great thing about this group is that they will respond with a great effort tomorrow. "

The Saints fell to 2-5 on the season but will have an opportunity to improve that record tomorrow with games against Eastern Oregon at 10 a.m. and Northwest Nazarene 4 p.m. both games are going to be played at NNU's Halle Field.
