HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College softball team continues their inaugural season at the College of Idaho/ Northwest Nazarene Softball Classic, Thursday through Sunday in Idaho's Treasure Valley.
The games take place at Northwest Nazarine's Bobby Welch Halle Softball Field and the College of Idaho's Symms Field.
"This weekend will be another challenging weekend as we play three top 25 games," head coach
Aaron Jackson said. "I believe that we are up to the challenge and our kids know what level they have to play at in order to win games against the strong competition we face."
Carroll plays the College of Idaho twice, Eastern Oregon, Northwest Nazarene, Concordia (Ore.) and closes out the weekend against the University of British Columbia. The Saints played C of I, EOU and Concordia last weekend and look forward to the opportunity to improve on their 2-4 record.
"We get a second chance at a couple of teams and the team is ready to take full advantage of those opportunities," Jackson said. "We feel like we let a few games go that we should have won so this will be a great opportunity to show these teams what we can do."
Carroll begins the week at the College of Idaho, Thursday, where they will take on the No. 21 Yotes at the Symms Field at 4 p.m. C of I defeated the Saints 2-9 last week. The game will be the only matchup for the Saints on the first day of the tournament.
Carroll faces Eastern Oregon at 10 a.m. at Bobby Welch Halle Field to start Friday's action. The Saints then play NCAA DII Northwest Nazarene at 4 p.m.
The tournament co-hosts are1-6 on the season but played some tough competition. The Saints played Eastern Oregon last weekend and held a 3-2 advantage before giving up six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning en route to an 8-3 loss.
Saturday, Carroll faces No. 15 Concordia at the C of I. The Saints earned the first victory in program history over Concordia 9-7 in the first day of last week's Northwest Cup.
Carroll then faces the Yotes for the second time in the weekend Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The Saints end the tournament Sunday Morning against the University of British Columbia. The game will take place at the College of Idaho at 10 a.m.
Jackson is eager for his team to get back on the field and build on a solid start last week.
"We learned a lot last weekend not just about the competition, but about ourselves," Jackson said. "Now that we have gotten our feet wet it is time to build upon our first weekend and get better each week."
