Saints Shutdown Beacons 63-47 to Move to 7-0

EUGENE, Ore. – The Carroll College women's basketball team moved to 7-0 on the season with a 63-47 road win over Northwest Christian Saturday evening in Eugene.

After trailing 5-2 early in the Saints went on a 10-0 run to take a 12-5 lead and never trailed the rest of the game.

Cassidy Hashley and Jordan Johnston scored 14 points each to lead the Saints. Brittney Johnson scored 12 points off of the bench and Baylee Watson nearly tallied a double-double with 10 rebounds and eight points.

Katie Estey was Carroll's key facilitator with five assists.

The win was the second in as many nights for Carroll who defeated NCAA DII opponent Concordia (Ore,) 62-52. The Saints close out the road trip against NCAA DIII Pacific Sunday in Forest Grove, Ore.

"It was another good road win, with one more to go," head coach Rachelle Sayers said. "It's been a long road trip but the players are focused and really want to finish strong. This has been a really challenging month, but our depth has been a huge advantage for us."

Johnston scored in double-digits for the third consecutive game and continues to be a steady force for the Saints in back-to-back three-game road trips.

"Jordan Johnston again was a huge calming factor for us," Sayers said. "She is playing with the poise of a senior captain, couldn't be prouder of her."

The 23 of 56 (41.1 percent) from the field but struggled from the free throw line going nine for 15. The Saints dominated the boards, outrebounding NCU 42-26.

"Our free throw shooting is still a concern but we are rebounding and getting the ball to the right people, so we will build on that," Sayer said.

Monique Thompson scored 15 points to lead the Beacons and Hanna Mack tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Saints close the weekend at Pacific tomorrow at 3 p.m. MDT. A Live stream of the game is available here.
