Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | by Carroll Sports Information

Saints Men's Soccer Buries Trinity Lutheran 3-1

HELENA, Mont. Isaac Bostrom scored two goals in the first half to lead the Carroll to a 3-1 win over Trinity Lutheran in a non-conference match at Nelson Stadium Wednesday.

Bostrom found the net in just the third minute of the match when a corner kick from Alessio Georgiades was reversed by Jacob Groh. Groh's header  found Bostrom in front of the net for the header goal.

The Saints had other chances early but multiple goals were called back because of offsides penalties.

"We probably could have put the game out of reach in the first 15 minutes," head coach Doug Mello said. "We create a lot of chances, we just don't finish a lot of chances. And we made a bit of a game of it, but a win's a win. It's a young squad, and I'm not going to nit-pick when I talk to the guys."

Bostrom tallied his second goal in the 36th minute. Jose Porras sent a beautiful cross in front of the goal keeper which left Bostrom wide open for the goal to give Carroll a 2-0 lead which the Saints held until halftime.

The Eagles managed just two shots all day but one went in for a goal in the 71st minute. Trinity Lutheran's Giancarlo Soprano set a rainbow shot of the outstretched hands of Jared Thielke to cut the Carroll lead to one.

"The thing is, we saw the game through. Granted, they had one shot and we didn't close the guy down and let him take a shot and he hit a once-in-a-lifer over the top of a 6-foot-3 goalkeeper to get their goal. But we kept our composure and shut them down the rest of the way, then we got an insurance goal."

Riley Prescott hit the Saints final goal in the 78th minute. Prescott got the ball 15 yards out and broke down his defender before sending the ball low to the left of the goalie for the insurance goal that led to the 3-1 win.

The Saints are at the mid-way point of a six match home stand and Carroll hosts the University of Great Falls Sunday in the next game of the stretch.

"We've got a big game on Sunday with Great Falls," Mello said. "It's quite a rivalry and we'll hope for a big crowd out here. But we're, I think, going into the match a little more confident after this one and knowing that we can create chances. Now, let's put a couple away and life will be a lot easier for us."

The Saints and the Argonauts take the field at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, at Nelson Stadium.
