Carroll Soccer Tops Walla Walla 6-0

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Jose Porras and James Lamont each scored two goals and the Carroll defense tallied its fifth shutout of the season to lead the Saints to a 6-0road win over Walla Walla Friday evening at a windswept Walla Walla University Soccer Complex.

Carroll took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal from Joes Mena in the 35th minute. Despite the lead, the Saints were sluggish in the first half. With the wind in their faces in the first half the Saints managed just 12 shots and allowed Walla Walla seven. Both of those numbers would change drastically in the second half.

"We were really sluggish in the first half and the wind was a huge factor," head coach Doug Mello said. "It took us a while to get going but in the second half we started putting the put the ball where it needed to be. Their goalkeeper had a great day or we would have capitalized on more opportunities."

The Saints finally broke through in the 62 minute on a goal from Lamont, he would follow that up with another just four minutes later to put the Saints up 3-0.

Porras scored in the 72nd minute to push the Saints advantage to 4-0. Issac Bostrom followed that up with a goal in the 81st minute to put Carroll up 5-0 and Porras closed out the scoring in the 89th minute.

Alessio Georgiades tallied two assists on the game, his ninth and 10th on the season.

Carroll tallied 32 shots in the second half while shutting down the Wolves to allow just two shots.

The Saints notched 24 shots on goal to four for Walla Walla.

Carroll goalkeeper Conor Smith tallied his fifth shutout of the season.

"Cojo was great in goal but Braden Wall and Adrian White were really good defensively in limiting shots," Mello said. "All around we had a great game and we were able to get a lot of guys playing time.
We have one more game to close out the season to put ourselves in a good position going into the conference tournament."

The Saints close out the road trip and the regular season against Multnomah Saturday in Portland. The match is slated for 5 p.m. MTN at Portland Christian High School. The Lions fell to UGF 14-0 today.
