HELENA, Mont. – Carroll College women's soccer and the University of Great Falls battled to a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at a windswept Nelson Stadium.
The Saints outshot UGF 16-5 including 12-3 in shots on goal but neither team found the back of the net and the teams emerged with the draw.
The game took place in conditions that were less than ideal. A wind out of the west pounded the field with gust as high as 50 miles per hour. Facilities staff had to take down the flags at the end of the field after the American flag was torn off of the pole.
Despite the weather, the Saints earned their seventh shutout of the season and moved to 5-1-1 in Cascade Conference play.
The Saints are now tied with Rocky Mountain for the points lead in the conference.
"I am very happy for our team to get a clean sheet in very difficult and windy conditions," head coach
Dave Thorvilson said. "This is a very difficult conference and you hate to leave game like this without a win but I have to give credit to UGF as well today, it was a battle from the first touch."
The Saints host Evergreen State Friday at 1 p.m. at nelson Stadium. Evergreen is 2-3 in Cascade play and 2-7 overall.
