Carroll College goalkeeper Jamie Carter tallied her third consecutive shutout as the Saints defeated Johnson and Wales (Colo.) 4-0 Sunday afternoon.
The Saints defense was key in Sunday's shutout. The Wildcats mustered just two shots for the match, neither was on frame.On the other end of the pitch, the Saints took were aggressive from the beginning of the match.
Katey Friedt scored on a shot from 10 yards out, assisted by Cassie Baldwin, to open the scoring in the 8th minute. In the 27th minute Krysten Bohlader found Cassidy Hammons who scored from just outside the box to give Carroll a 2-0 advantage. The Saints took a 3-0 lead when Lexi Pyette scored in the 51st minute. Just two minutes later the advantage was 4-0 when a Johnson and Wales own goal capped the scoring.
The Saints outshot the Wildcats 13-2. Ten of the Saints' 13 shots were on goal. Both of Johnson and Wales' shots came in the first 15 minute of the match.
Carroll also held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The match was the final of two matches for the Saints in Colorado. The Saints next travel to Dallas to play matches against the University of Texas-Dallas (Oct. 11) and Texas A&M-Texarkana (Oct. 13).
The Carroll College men were defeated by Johnson and Wales 3-0 in the late game. The Saints men host Westminster Saturday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. at Nelson Stadium.
