CC women's soccer tops UT-Dallas 1-0 in OT

DALLAS – Brittany Girolami scored a lone goal in the 92nd minute to give Carroll College a 1-0 victory over NCAA Division III University of Texas-Dallas.

The Saints and Comets tallied three shots each in the first half but Carroll stepped up the pressure in the second half.

The Saints outshot UTD 7-5 in the second half. Four of those Carroll's came in final 5:30 spurred by a shot my Michaela Kueffler that hit the crossbar at the 84:30 mark.

"Both teams had chances but Michaela's shot that hit the crossbar really helped the team step up the pressure in the last five minutes," head Coach Dave Thorvilson said. "That momentum carried over into the overtime."

Just over a minute into the overtime period a UTD foul set up a Carroll free kick in 30 yards out of the Comets' goal.

Girolami found the back of the net with her free kick to give the Saints their third-straight victory on the golden goal.

"I am very proud of the team to get a win over a good team on the road," Thorvilson said. "They were athletic, well coached and played hard. It was a great win."

The shutout was the fourth-consecutive clean sheet for Carroll goalkeeper Jamie Carter.

The Saints are now 10-1-2 on the season. They continue their Texas road swing Monday when they meet Texas A&M Texarkana at 12 p.m.
