HELENA, Mont. – Carroll men's basketball travels to Billings Saturday to face Rocky Mountain College at 7:30 p.m. in the final game of the first half of the Frontier Conference season.
The Saints (13-7, 2-4 FC) have lost three-straight games but look to break that streak against the Bears (13-7, 2-4 FC) who holds the same record as Carroll.
Rocky Mountain and Carroll are two of the four teams tied for fifth in the Frontier with a 2-4 record. Great Falls leads the way with a 5-1 record, Montana-Western and Montana Tech are tied for second at 4-2 and Lewis-Clark sits at fourth with a 3-3 conference record.
The game is the lone contest of the week for the Saints and the extra time couldn't have come at a better time for the young Carroll squad.
"We're excited to get back on the hardwood for a game after a good week of practice," head coach
Carson Cunningham said. "I love coaching this group. They're battlers. I think we got better this week, and we're looking forward to the opportunity to step back into the arena on Saturday."
The Saints face a Bear team with an experienced backcourt. Malachi Roberts, Tyee Anderson and Sian Laine are Rocky's three leading scorers and all three are seniors.
"Rocky Mountain is an experienced outfit, with a trio of high-scoring senior guards, in particular," Cunningham said. "So, as with all Frontier games, we know that Rocky presents us with a mighty challenge."
Carroll doesn't have the Bears' experience; four of Carroll's five leading scorers are either freshmen or sophomores but led by
Zach Taylor the Saints have already won four games more than all of last season.
Rocky Mountain is second in the conference scoring 86.5 points per game but give up a Frontier worst 74.6 points per game. The Saints score 70.55 points per game and give up 67.95.
The Saints Rank in the top-10 in the nation in both free throw percentage and total rebounds.
