BOISE, Idaho – Cassidy Hashley scored 13 points and Baylee Watson added 10 but the Carroll College women's basketball team fell to Boise State 58-45 in an exhibition game on the road Sunday afternoon.
The Saints trailed by only six points with four minutes remaining before the Broncos went on a seven-point run to end the game.
"They pressed us the entire 40 minutes and their starters were in the game when the buzzer sounded," head coach Rachelle Sayers said. "I thought that this was a big complement to us. They won 18 games last year and were picked to finish second in the Mountain West. I thought our kids handled the pressure well but we made the decision late in the game to not press and leave something in the tank for tomorrow."
Boise State started the game on an 11-3 run but the Saints battled back to take a 18-17 lead on a Mika Robinson 3-pointer with 6:41 left in the first half.
After a Michaela Dowdy Free throw gave the Saints a 19-17 lead, the Broncos ended the half on a 10-0 run to lead 27-19 at the break.
Carroll cut the lead to 35-34 with 12:43 left in the game, before Boise State took control in the final minutes.
"We were right there but we couldn't close out the game," Sayers said. "We didn't shoot well enough to win but we battled hard. I was glad to see Cassidy (Hashley) have a good game, two games in a row. Our freshmen have matured a lot so far this season."
Carroll was 15-47 (29.8 percent) from the field compared to 23-52 (44.2 percent) for the Broncos. The Saints outrebounded Boise State 30-29. Four Broncos scored in double-figures, led by Camille Redmon with 17, she also had a game-high eight rebounds.
The Saints close out the three-game swing in the Treasure Valley with a game against the College of Idaho Monday. The Yotes are 1-7 on the season including a 0-5 record against Frontier Conference teams.
The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
