2018-19 Men's Basketball Roster
Biography
Following a junior season where he averaged 5.8 PPG, 4.8 RPG and 3.4 APG in just 20 minutes per game, the 6-8 point guard from Spain is looking forward to a productive senior campaign before he makes the jump to a professional basketball career in Europe. He's expected to be on the court a lot more than the previous years. His shooting, length and basketball knowledge allow him to be reliable operator on both sides of the floor.Â
Coach Paulson's Comments: "Alejandro Santos Piqueras is a very unique player. Exciting. He's a big, strong kid. He'll be a fifth year senior. Looking for a big year out of him. He can really pass. His shooting has come a long ways. Very good shooter. He's just a mismatch. He can handle the ball, he can shoot, he can post up. He can defend one through five. He did a ton of work in the offseason, too."
After red-shirting for the 2015-16 season due to an injury, Alex Santos turned in some big plays in 2016-17 for the Fighting Saints as they won the Frontier Conference reg. season and tourney championships and qualified for the school's second straight NAIA National Tournament's Elite Eight. He delivered 45 assists, registered 8 blocks, shot 52.3% from the field, and averaged 3 rebs per game in just under 13 minutes of action per tilt. He is an international business major from Madrid, Spain.Â
As a freshman in 2014-15, Alex Santos, the Madrid, Spain native and former member of the celebrated Club Estudiantes, turned in some fantastic performances late in the season to help Carroll battle for top positioning in the Frontier Conference. The "pass whisperer" turned heads with his crafty management of the rock.
Catch this: as a high school student in Spain, Alex Santos helped lead Club Estudiantes to the city Championship versus Real Madrid and to the Spanish National Tournament. He was a leading table setter for Estudiantes.
