Chan was a second team all-southwest league player for Sierra Vista HS in Las Vegas. He averaged 18 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists en route to being voted MVP of his team. Chan was a team captain as a senior and played AAU ball for the Las Vegas Knicks.
