Prior to Carroll - Garreffa was a varsity letter winner and team leader in tackles as a senior at Cherokee Trail. He was a three-year varsity letter winner and placed third in the state of Colorado at 190 lbs in wrestling. Off the field, Garreffa was a four-year member of the Honor Roll. Mateo is the son of Joan ('02) and Dominic ('04) Garreffa and has two brothers (Louie, Anthony). He plans to pursue a degree in Business Management.
