Was a backup defensive lineman. He was also an Academic All-Conference selection.

High School: 
Matt was a First Team All-State Honoree at linebacker and offensive line. He was named his team's defensive MVP. Matt was a two-year letterman in basketball and three-year winner in track and field. Matt was president of the National Honor Society and maintained a 3.75 GPA.
