MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Carroll College Women's Soccer team rallied from a second-half deficit on Sunday morning, as Makayla Schnabel's second-half strike lifted the Fighting Saints to a 1-1 draw with St. Thomas University (Fla.) at AutoNation Field.
The first half was a scoreless, back-and-forth affair, with St. Thomas holding a 6-4 shot advantage but Carroll goalkeeper Maria Ackerman (Billings, Mont. / SR) turning aside both shots on target she faced. Rachel McAllister (Brier, Wash. / JR) came closest to breaking through for the Saints, ringing a shot off the post in the 40th minute after also forcing a save from the Bobcat keeper earlier in the period.
St. Thomas (3-0-1) broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute when Mariana Sanchez finished off an assist from Hanah Gonzalez, giving the Bobcats their first lead of the match. Carroll (0-1-1) answered just over 10 minutes later, as Makayla Schnabel (Billings, Mont. / FR) scored her first collegiate goal in the 82nd minute off a great feed from Bailey Koster (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho / FR) to level the score at 1-1.
McAllister was Carroll's most dangerous attacker throughout, finishing with a team-high five shots, two on frame. Ackerman was tested repeatedly down the stretch, finishing with eight saves on the day as St. Thomas out-shot the Saints 15-10 overall, 9-4 on goal.
The Fighting Saints will now return home to Nelson Stadium in preparations for their home opener against Arizona Christian on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m., and another non-conference battle with Ottawa (Ariz.) on Monday, Sept. 7 at 9 a.m.
