HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Softball team will host a rare midweek doubleheader this afternoon, taking on Providence at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Valley Bank Field at Nelson Stadium.
The Fighting Saints (9-11, 4-6) come in to the series off of yet another weather cancellation, as the final two games of their series at Bellevue were wiped out due to severe rain in the greater Omaha area last weekend.Â
Today they'll get their chance to knock-off the conference-leading Argonauts (17-16, 9-3), as the familiar foes meet for the first time as Frontier Conference Softball opponents after more than a decade of membership in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
The pair have met a total of 48 times since 2015, with Carroll owning a 26-22 advantage in the all-time series. Last year, the Saints hosted the Argos in a four-game season finale, taking three of the four games, including a 9-1 run-rule six inning in the final game of the regular season.
Now as members of the Frontier, the four-game season series will be split home-and-home, with both teams getting a chance to host a double-header.
Today's doubleheader is Carroll's 'The Hidden Opponent' cause, dedicated to mental health awareness in collaboration with the nonprofit organization The Hidden Opponent. THO strives to bring attention to the importance of student-athlete mental health by sharing stories of student-athletes around the world and offering various programs for all athletes to prioritize their mental health.
The doubleheader will also be broadcast live on SWX affiliates throughout Montana, Northern Idaho, and Eastern Washington with a simulcast available online HERE.
