HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Softball team will host their final home series of the 2026 season, taking on Valley City State in a four-game series on Valley Bank Field at Nelson Stadium. Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., while Sunday's twin bill is set for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The Fighting Saints (14-12, 9-7) have seen four games axed from their schedule due to weather this season. Out of an abundance of caution, with every game carrying plenty of weight in the conference standings, this weekend's series which was originally slated for Friday-Saturday, was moved fully into the weekend.
2026 marks Carroll Softball's first year in the newly-formed Frontier Conference, and the Saints are right in the mix for the league's first title. Entering the week, they sit tied with the Vikings, this weekend's opponent, for third place in the standings at 9-7.
The four-game series will be the final home games for a trio of Carroll seniors who came in at the same time as Head Coach Shawna Juarez.
Following the final out in game four of the series on Sunday,
Kennedy Venner (Billings, Mont. / SR),
Sammie Labrum (Kalispell, Mont. / SR), and
Kati Slater (Yamhill, Ore. / SR) will all be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the program.
All three seniors have been impact players for the Saints over the past several seasons, each starting the vast majority of the games over the past two years.
Venner, the all-time strikeouts leader at Carroll College, enters the weekend just 23 punch-outs away from becoming the first Saint to record 500 career strikeouts. Slater is the active leader in career stolen bases, and Labrum is a career .328-hitter, with 25 extra-base hits and 48 career RBI.
Saturday's games will be broadcast throughout Montana, Northern Idaho, and Eastern Washington on SWX affiliates, with a simulcast available online.
