HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Basketball teams will make their longest conference road trip of the season this weekend, as they head to Nebraska and South Dakota for a weekend pair at Bellevue on Friday, and Dakota State on Saturday.
Week-by-week the race for the 2025-26 Frontier Conference titles tighten, and the Fighting Saints remain firmly in contention on both the Men's and Women's sides of the action. Every game becomes more and more important, and this weekend is no exception with a pair of tests against the Bruins and Trojans.
The Carroll Women (15-7, 13-3) come into the first weekend in Februrary off an up-and-down end of January. Last Friday at the PE Center, the Saints throttled No. 13 Montana Tech, 69-41, for their third win over a ranked opponent in the month, but fell flat in a Saturday matchup with Montana Western. The Saints saw a 20-game win streak over the Bulldogs, and an eight-game conference win streak come to a close, and will look to bounce back on Friday at Bellevue.
While the loss knocked them out of first place in the league standings, the Saints will have the opportunity to level things back up this weekend. Taking care of business against Bellevue on Friday is the top priority, but Saturday night presents the opportunity to chase down Frontier-leader, No. 7 Dakota State. A pair of Carroll wins would vault them back to the top of the league standings.
The Saints own wins over both schools already this season, a 24-point win over Bellevue in which they held the Bruins to a season-low 34 points, and a thrilling last second win over the then-ranked No. 4 Trojans thanks to a
Willa Albrecht (Billings, Mont. / R-SR) game-winner near the buzzer.
On the Men's side of the action, the Saints (15-6, 13-3) will look to avenge one of their three conference losses on Friday, as Bellevue took an 81-77 win in the first meeting at the PE Center last month. Both the Bruins and Saints sit tied for second place in the league standings at 13-3, one game back from Rocky, and two games clear of fourth place Dakota State and Montana Tech.
Following Friday's battle with the Bruins, the Saints will head three hours North to Madison, S.D. for their first ever trip to the DSU Fieldhouse where they'll look for the season sweep of the Trojans.
Just like the Women, the Carroll Men picked up a thrilling last second win over Dakota State in Helena last month, with
Kellen Harrison (Bozeman, Mont. / SO) racing the length of the court for a buzzer-beating layup to seal an 82-21 win.
The two Carroll games this weekend will feature three of the top scoring threats in the Frontier - Bellevue's Ahamad Bynum (20.1 ppg), Dakota State's Nathan Ojukwu (19.1 ppg), and reigning Frontier scoring champion
Isaiah Crane (Portland, Ore. / R-SO) (19.8 ppg).
Friday night's games against Bellevue will see the Women start things off at 4 p.m. (MST), with the Men following at 6 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader against Dakota State will be the standard 5 p.m. (MST), 7 p.m. format that Saints fans are accustomed to.
