HELENA, Mont. - The Frontier Conference Basketball Tournament is officially underway, and both the Carroll Men's and Women's Basketball teams will look to capture the league's postseason title and associated autobid for the upcoming NAIA Championship next month.
Both teams secured the third-seed for their respective tournaments, and both will play their quarterfinal matchups on Saturday at the Butte Civic Center. The Women will start their title quest at 2:30 p.m. against sixth-seeded Montana Western, while the Men have the nightcap against sixth-seeded Dakota State at 7:30 p.m.
On the Women's side of the action, the Saints and Bulldogs split their regular season series, with both sides earning their wins on the road - Carroll in Dillon last December, and Western in Helena last Month. The Bulldogs' win in Helena snapped a 20-game win streak for the Fighting Saints in the series dating back to 2020, and Carroll will look to start a new one with a postseason win on Saturday.
Â
The Carroll Men took both games over the Trojans in the season series - a seven-point victory in Madison, S.D. at the beginning of the month, and a thrilling 83-82 win at the PE Center in January that culminated with a
Kellen Harrison (Bozeman, Mont. / SO) layup with less than one second on the clock.
Should the Saints emerge victorious in their quarterfinal matchups, they will advance to semifinal Sunday, where the Women would play the winner of Montana Tech and Providence at 2:30 p.m., and the Men would play the winner of Bellevue and MSU-Northern at 7:30 p.m.
Both teams enter the weekend with several newly-minted award winners, as the Frontier announced its postseason individual awards and All-Conference teams last night.
Isaiah Crane (Portland, Ore. / R-SO) was named the Frontier Conference Men's Player of the Year, after leading the league with 20.0 ppg in conference play. The '24-25 Freshman of the Year saw his teammate
Drew Jones (Puyallup, Wash. / FR) make it back-to-back seasons with the honor for the Fighting Saints, as Jones was named Freshman of the Year with his 12.0 ppg while coming off the bench.
On the Women's Side,
Jillian Kanduch (Miles City, Mont.) was also named Frontier Conference Freshman of the Year, averaging 9.9 ppg alongside Co-Newcomer of the Year,
Kenzie Allen (Grantsville, Utah / JR). Allen was also named to the league's All-Defensive team, while
Willa Albrecht (Billings, Mont. / R-SR) earned her second-straight First Team All-Conference honor, leading the Saints with 15.9 ppg and 5.3 rpg.
Sophomores
