Tournament Fields Set - Saints Earn Three-Seeds for Frontier Championship

02/23/26 | 10:21 AM

HELENA, Mont. - Tournament time is here, and the Carroll Men's and Women's Basketball teams will head to the Butte Civic Center this weekend for the 2025-26 Frontier Conference Tournament, both entering the event as the third seed in their respective brackets.

The 2025-26 season marked the first in a new look 12-team Frontier Conference, and the format for the league's postseason format will be slightly different than year's past. Eight of the 12 teams from both sides of the action qualified for the championship, and will battle it out in a single-elimination tournament over the span of four days.

Both the Carroll Men (19-8, 17-5) and Women (19-9, 17-5) will enter the weekend as the third seed. The Men finished tied for second in the regular season with Bellevue, but the Bruins earned the two-spot by way of their sweep in the season series. The Women finished tied for third in the league standings with Rocky Mountain College, and will slot in as the three-seed based upon tie-break scenarios against common tournament opponents. The Saints were 2-0 against Bismarck State, who earned the eighth-seed, while the Battlin' Bears split the season series.

The top two seeds on both sides of the action will play their quarterfinals on Friday, Feb. 27, while the three's (Carroll) and four's will have quarterfinals on Saturday at the Butte Civic Center.

The Carroll Women will open the tournament up with a 2:30 p.m. quarterfinal matchup with sixth-seeded Montana Western. The Saints and Bulldogs split their regular season series, with both sides earning their wins on the road - Carroll in Dillon last December, and Western in Helena last Month. The Bulldogs' win in Helena snapped a 20-game win streak for the Fighting Saints in the series dating back to 2020, and Carroll will look to start a new one with a postseason win on Saturday.

The Carroll Men will play in the nightcap on Saturday at the Civic Center, taking on sixth-seeded Dakota State at 7:30 p.m. in their first year as a Frontier member. The Saints took both games over the Trojans in the season series - a seven-point victory in Madison, S.D. at the beginning of the month, and a thrilling 83-82 win at the PE Center in January that culminated with a Kellen Harrison (Bozeman, Mont. / SO) layup with less than one second on the clock.

Should the Saints emerge victorious in their quarterfinal matchups, they will advance to semifinal Sunday, where the Women would play the winner of Montana Tech and Providence at 2:30 p.m., and the Men would play the winner of Bellevue and MSU-Northern at 7:30 p.m.

Monday night's Championship games are slated for a 5 p.m. start for the Women, with the Men following at 7:30 p.m.
