HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Basketball teams will put a bow on the regular season this weekend, as they take on Valley City State and Mayville State in a pair of road games on Friday and Saturday. The Women will start both evenings at 4 p.m., with the Men following each night at 6 p.m. (MST).
Entering the final weekend of the season, both the Carroll Men and Women sit in second place in their respective standings. The Men are standalone in second place with a 16-4 record, two games back of No. 11 Rocky, while the No. 25-ranked Women are tied for second with Montana Tech, fighting for seeding in next week's Frontier Championship at the Butte Civic Center.
Due to a flood issue in the VCSU gymnasium, Friday night's doubleheader against the Vikings will be held at the Memorial Auditiorium on the campus of Concordia University in Moorehead, Minn.
Both the Men and Women swept the first weekend of play against the two schools last month in Helena, and will look to finish the season strong in their first trips to the Eastern side of North Dakota this weekend.
In the first meetings with the Vikings, both the Carroll Men and Women overcame early struggles to pull away for victories.
Willa Albrecht (Billings, Mont. / R-SR) was simply outstanding in the first game, scoring a career-best 35 points in the win, the second-highest scoring night in program history, while
Isaiah Crane's (Portland, Ore. / R-SO) 25-point effort lifted Carroll to victory on the Men's side.
Both teams earned decisive victories over Mayville State in Helena, winning by double-digits on both sides of the action, and will look to replicate the success on Saturday.
The Men control their own destiny in terms of postseason seeding, with a pair of wins locking up at worst a second-seed for the Frontier Championship. The Women's seeding will likely depend on the results of various league games this weekend to determine tie-break scenarios.Â
