Saints Host Familiar Foes Tech and Western in Weekend Pair

01/30/26 | 10:07 AM

HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Basketball teams return to the PE Center hardwood this weekend, hosting a pair of important late-season conference games against traditional rivals Montana Tech and Montana Western. Friday night at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., the Saints open the weekend against the Orediggers, before hosting the Bulldogs on Saturday evening.

As the 2025-26 Frontier Conference season winds to a close, the Fighting Saints continue to stay right in the thick of the race for the title on both sides of the action. Just three weekends remain ahead of the conference tournament, with the Women sitting tied for first in league play, while the Men enter the weekend one game back of the top spot.

For the second, and final time this season, the Saints will take on Tech and Western, looking to bolster their position and remain at the top of the standings.

On the Women's side, Friday night's showdown with the Orediggers will be a battle between first place teams for the first time this late in the season since the NAIA online records began in 2003. Both Carroll and Tech enter the weekend with identical 12-2 records in conference play, tied with Dakota State for the top spot in the league. Montana Tech won the first meeting between the teams back in early December, but the Saints have come on strong since.

Carroll enters the weekend on a seven-game win streak in the New Year, including ranked wins over Dakota State and last week's 61-52 win over then-ranked No. 18 Rocky. As always, defense has been key to the Saints' success, holding teams to just 49.7 ppg over the course of the streak.

Following Friday's first place battle, the Saints will look to extend their 20-game win streak over Montana Western on Saturday. Carroll has won every meeting between the two schools dating back to January of 2021, and will look to continue the trend.

On the Men's side of the action, Friday night's rivalry game against Montana Tech will be the first time since 2020 that the schools have met without wither team owning at least a share of the Frontier lead. Carroll sits at 11-3 in conference play, with the Orediggers trailing right behind at 10-4. Carroll has won each of the last two meetings, including a thrilling overtime victory in Butte earlier this season that featured late game heroics from Drew Jones (Puyallup, Wash. / FR).

On Saturday, the Saints will look to sweep the season series with the Bulldogs for the third time since 2020. That game will feature two of the nation's top scoring threats, as Carroll's Isaiah Crane (Portland, Ore. / R-SO) and Western's Kyle Gruhler enter the week as two of just 31 players in the nation to average 20 or more points per game this season.

Friday night's doubleheader will be Carroll's annual Whiteout night, with fans and students alike encouraged to wear white.
