HELENA, Mont. - Both the Carroll Men's and Women's Basketball teams will look to remain atop the Frontier Conference standings on Friday evening, as they host Rocky Mountain College in a doubleheader at the PE Center, with the Women tipping at 5 p.m. and the Men following at 7 p.m.
With just one month remaining in the 2025-26 Frontier Conference regular season, both the Carroll Basketball teams find themselves in first place of the league standings. Down to their final nine games, each contest becomes more and more important as the Men look for their first league crown since 2021-22, and the Women look to regain the title last won in 2023-24.
Friday night's doubleheader features four teams either ranked or receiving votes, with all four teams either tied for first place, or one game back in second in the league standings.Â
On the Women's side of the action, the Fighting Saints (13-6, 11-2) enter the weekend among the nation's hottest teams. After a pair of setbacks at the Daytona Beach Shootout in December, the Carroll Women have been strong following the new year. Winners of their last six, the Saints have bounced back from a pair of early conference losses to sit tied for the league lead, a position they're very accustomed to.
No. 18 Rocky was one of the two early season conference losses for the Saints, as the Bears shot nearly 60 percent from the floor en route to a 67-56 win in the conference opener all the way back in November at the Fortin Center. Both teams have worked their way to a 13-6 record overall since their first meeting, while Carroll has an edge in conference play following Rocky's loss at Providence last week.
Carroll is 8-2 over the last 10 meetings in the series, but it's the Bears who enter the game with a two-game win streak in the series going back to last spring.
Since mid-January of last season, the Carroll Men have been one of the toughest outs in the Frontier Conference. Going back one full year, the Saints are 23-9 in the time-span, and have emerged as a legitimate contender for their first conference title in four years. On Friday night, they'll find out just where they stand, taking on fellow conference-leader Rocky, looking to sweep the season series and move one step closer to the crown.
November's first meeting between the teams was one to remember, a 76-74 slugfest in Billings that kick-started the Saints' 8-1 record to start the '25-26 campaign. Five different Saints scored 10 or more points in the first meeting, led by an 18-point effort from
Isaiah Crane (Portland, Ore. / R-SO).
Crane, the leading scorer in that game, is fresh off becoming a school record-holder in Saturday's win at Providence, where he added 30 more points to the RMC tally to tie Jack Sanders' 55-year-old single game individual scoring record with 48 points. For his historic night, Crane was recognized as the Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Carroll has been strong in the recent series with Rocky, winning nine of the last 10 meetings and each of the last seven.
Friday's doubleheader is a standalone date on the league calendar. Carroll and Rocky are travel partners in the new 12-team league, and will only play the one game this week as opposed to the regular Friday-Saturday doubleheaders.
