Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Crane Ties School Record With 48 Points in Win at Providence

GREAT FALLS, Mont. - A 55-year-old program record was matched on Saturday night, as Isiah Crane scored 48 points to lead the (RV) Carroll Men's Basketball team to a 109-101 victory over Providence at the McLaughlin Center.

24 Hours removed from a disappointing loss on the Hi-Line, the Fighting Saints (13-5, 11-2) responded with a historic win over the Argonauts.

Move over Jack Sanders, you're no longer the only Saint to score 48 points in a single game.

55 years later, against the same opponent, Isaiah Crane (Portland, Ore. / R-SO) etched his name in the Carroll annals with a blistering 48-point performance to match the longstanding program record.

Crane, the 2024-25 Frontier Conference Freshman of the Year, and the league's leading scorer last season (18.4 ppg), was simply electric in the Electric City. The standout guard was unconscious from the floor, going 18-20 on the night (90 percent), with his lone two misses coming from range (3-5 3PT FG), missing just one attempt in each half.

A 21-point performance is an impressive feat for any player, but it was only half the story for Crane on Saturday. Trailing by six with 8:26 left in the opening half, the Saints turned things around. Crane knocked down a quick layup, and pulled down a defensive board on the ensuing trip down the court for the Argos. From that point forward, it was Carroll's game to lose. Crane scored 13 points over the next eight minutes, giving the Saints a commanding 61-46 lead at the half.

7-of-8 from the field, 3-of-4 from three-point range, and 4-of-5 at the stripe, Crane had compiled a full game stat line over the first 20 minutes, and wasn't even close to finished.

Coming out of the break, Crane missed a three on his first attempt of the half, and then locked back in for the remainder.

Neither team did much to slow down the opposing offense in the second half shootout, and had Crane not continued his historic night, the Argos may have snuck back into contention.

Crane scored at will in the frame, going 11-11 over the final 18 minutes of action en route to 27 second half points to cap one of the single best individual performances in school history. An 80 percent free throw shooter entering the game, Crane left just a pair of points on the board from the line - going 9-11 on free throw attempts.

One day after a puzzling 44 percent shooting night for the Saints - their third lowest mark of the season - Carroll responded with a 61 percent night on Saturday (42-69).

Providence made a late run, closing the gap within single digits in the final minute, but the explosive performance from Crane and the Saints was never in question.

Outside of the school record, four other Saints finished their night with 10 or more points. Kellen Harrison (Bozeman, Mont. / SO) scored 13 points on a 6-8 shooting night. Isaac Round (Northampton, England / SO) and Aidan McGarvin (Eagle, Idaho / SR) each poured in 12 points, and local product Dean Blair (Great Falls, Mont. / SO) posted his first double-digit scoring night with 10 points in his first homecoming game.

Saturday's offensive was the highest scoring game in program history (210 total points), and the first time in program history that the Saints have won a game in which they allowed 100 or more points.

The school record will remain the big story from the night, but the road win also keeps the Fighting Saints in a three-way tie atop the Frontier Conference standings with both Bellevue and Rocky at 9-2.

Friday night at 7 p.m., Carroll will get their opportunity to separate from at least one of those teams, as they host the Battlin' Bears in a monumental mid-season matchup with a potential season sweep and first place on the line.
