HELENA, Mont. - The (RV) Carroll Volleyball team is back in action this weekend, competing at the Hampton Inn Classic, hosted by Bushnell and Corban University in Salem, Ore.
For the second straight weekend, the Fighting Saints will play four matches in two days. Friday afternoons doubleheader lineup includes a 1 p.m. opening tilt with Oklahoma Wesleyan, and a quick turnaround for a 4 p.m. evening match against Our Lady of the Lake (Tx.). On Saturday Carroll will play the two host schools, beginning with a 12:30 p.m. battle against Bushnell and a 5:30Â p.m. nightcap against No. 3 Corban.
Carroll enters the weekend with an abundance of confidence, and rightfully so following their performance at last week's Big Sky Challenge. The Saints impressed throughout the event, picking up four wins to start their season while only dropping one frame over the course of the weekend.
Lauren Heuiser (Helena, Mont. / JR) was a catalyst for the opening weekend success, and her dominant four-game performance earned her Frontier Conference Attacker of the Week honors for the first time in her career. The junior was outstanding, leading the team in Kills (47), Kills per set (3.6), hitting percentage (.327), and blocks (17) to boot.
Oklahoma Wesleyan, Carroll's first opponent of the weekend, enters the tournament with a matching undefeated record. The Eagles won three matches at the Sioux City Tournament last weekend, including a 3-1 win over Rocky.
Our Lady of the Lake is 2-2 entering the weekend, with a pair of sweeps over Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) and William Carey (Ms.).
Bushnell already competed in multiple tournaments this season, coming in with a 4-3 record. They began the year with three sweeps at the Raider Invitational over Arizona Christian, Simpson, and Park-Gilbert (Ariz.), but faltered with a 1-3 record at the Hope International Summer Slam last weekend.
No. 3-ranked Corban has been one of the top teams in the nation in recent years, and already have three ranked wins on the young season. The Warriors beat No. 9 St. Thomas (Fla.), No. 16 Viterbo (Wisc.), and No. 20 Midland (Neb.) last weekend before falling in five sets to No. 19 Missouri Baptist.
All four games will be streamed through Corban's Pay-Per-View Hudl Channel,
