Marion, Ind. – The Fighting Saints increased momentum on Day 2 at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Indiana Wesleyan University on Thursday with the meet continuing through Friday.
Carroll scored two National Champions within 10 minutes at the meet as Weston Means won the High Jump and Carson Krack came from behind in the final event - the 1500m - to win the Decathlon. Means had the 4th highest clearance in the field this season entering the meet. The win makes it two in a row as he was also the National Champion in Indoor.
Krack came into the Decathlon with the highest points score recorded this season, and he placed in the Top 5 in six events over the two day competition. He is a freshman this year, and the championship earns him his second All-American award after placing 8th at the NAIA Indoor Championships.
Tucker Monaco placed 3rd in the Decathlon, making three consecutive national meets with All-American honors. He was 6th at the 2025 Indoor Championships and 8th at the 2024 Outdoor Championships. After placing 2nd in the multi-event Discus and winning the Pole Vault, he moved up from 5th overall with a 3rd place finish in the 1500m.
The three athletes scored 26 points for the Saints. Combined with Reuben Hornby's 2nd Place finish in the Javelin on Wednesday, the Saints have 34 points total and currently sit in second overall in the men's meet. While there are many points still on the board with most running event finals on Friday, the Saints have multiple potential scoring opportunities as well. Last year, 1st and 2nd place teams scored in the 60s with 3rd and 4th place teams in the 40s. However, in the previous three years 1st and 2nd were in the 40s or 50s, so Carroll will be aiming high as the meet concludes.
On Friday, Monaco will return for a third day of competition in a row in the Pole Vault, joining senior Josh Smalley who has the 4th highest clearance this season in the event. Brycen Gardner will race in the final of the 3000m Steeplechase, as will Zack Gacnik in the 5000m. Due to scratches, Thursday's 5000m preliminary round was canceled and 17 men headed straight to the final Friday.
In the women's meet, Brynn Wandle tied for 9th in her second national Pole Vault competition. The freshman cleared her first bar of the day. Madalen Shipman ran in the 800m preliminary round. Her race set a personal record, moving her to 2nd on the Top 10 lists for the Saints. The top finisher and next 5 fastest times advanced to the final, and Shipman made it through by time and will compete again Friday.
The Saints' event schedule is as follows (times adjusted to Mountain Time from Eastern):
FRIDAY
11:00 am Pole Vault (Smalley, Monaco)
11:20 am Steeplechase Final (Gardner)
1:50 pm 800m Final (Shipman)
