PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Carroll College Golf teams laid the framework for a good week following their performances in the opening round of the 2025 Frontier Conference Championships at the Papago Golf Club on Monday.

Following one round of action, the Carroll Women sit in third place with a team score of 342 (+54), while the Carroll Men sit fourth at 320 (+32).

Playing alongside the usual group of Frontier foes, as well as members of the CalPac Conference, the Fighting Saints put together a string of rounds that can be built upon in absolute perfect conditions this week in the desert.

On the Women's side of the action, the Saints were led by an opening round 81 (+9) from their most veteran player, Stella Claridge (Kalispell, Mont. / JR), who sits tied for fourth in the individual competition. Twin sisters Alli and Ellie Stastny (Murtaugh, Idaho / FR) were right behind Claridge in the scoring, posting rounds of 82 (+10) and 88 +16), respectively. Alli's round of 82 places her tied for sixth entering day two. Fellow freshman Lauren Mayala (Billings, Mont. / FR) rounded out the four counting scores with a 19-over round of 91.

The Saints were forced to play with only four scores on the first day, after an injury sidelined Celi Chapman (Montana City, Mont. / SO). Should she be able to compete in any subsequent rounds, her score will be eligible for the team total, but Chapman is forced to withdraw from the individual competition.

The Carroll Men had one of their strongest showings of the season in round one, with birdies dotting the cards throughout the lineup.

TJ Fierling (North Bend, Wash. / SO) and Kyle Kennah (Laurel, Mont. / FR) posted the rounds of the day for the Men, as the pair sit tied for 16th in the individual competition with rounds of 78 (+6). Jackson Hammond (Scottsdale, Ariz. / SO) started his tournament off strong with three birdies in his first six holes, but stumbled a bit down the stretch to card an eight-over round of 80. Tanner Cromwell (Anaconda, Mont. / FR) rounded out the Saint scores with a round of 84 (+12).

Rocky Mountain College leads the event on both sides of the action. The Rocky Men sit at 278 (-10), while the Women sit at 314 (+26).

Eliminating big numbers will be the primary focus for the teams heading into day two, as second round play at Papago tees off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (MDT).
