VANCOUVER, B.C. - The Carroll College Softball team had a frustrating weekend trip to Canada, as persistent rain forced postponements and a cancelation of the scheduled non-conference matchup against the University of British Columbia.
Citing poor field conditions and tight travel arrangements that could not be changed, the final two conference games between the Thunderbirds and the Fighting Saints have been postponed.
A makeup date will be announced once it has been confirmed through the league office, as both teams currently sit in postseason position.
While the two Saturday contests are officially postponed, the pair of teams were able to get one game of the series in on Friday evening.
UBC won game one of the series 5-0, featuring an impressive performance in the circle. Shae Sever pitched a complete game shutout for the Thunderbirds, surrendering only one Carroll hit in the win. As impressive as Sever was in the circle, she was equally as impactful at the plate. The fourth-year player put an exclamation point on the win in the sixth inning, blasting a two-run homer to lock up the win in the lone game of the series.
The game was tightly-contested for the first several innings, before the T-Birds began to string together timely hits in the later stages. All five of the UBC runs were scored in the fourth inning or later.
While the teams await direction from the league office, the Saints will return to Helena for a four-game series against Warner Pacific next weekend at Nelson Stadium.
