HELENA, Mont. - Carroll College Athletics is proud to present another installment of a celebration of our outstanding Fighting Saint student-athletes who model excellence in all they do, embodying the NAIA Champions of Character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
Student-athletes from each program will be recognized as our Fighting Saints Champions of Character throughout the year. We are excited to partner with Intrepid Credit Union to sponsor this recognition of our student-athletes. Intrepid Credit Union is a corporate champion of Carroll Athletics, supporting our 15 sports and 400-plus student-athletes.
Â
The Women's Basketball Champion of Character is
Isabelle Erickson.
Erickson is a redshirt junior from Broadview, Mont. who carries a 3.95 GPA on the Pre-Med track.
Â
Erickson started all 31 games for the Fighting Saints this season, posting career-high marks in minutes, points, and rebounds. She had a memorable night in Carroll's first game against Montana Western in January, pulling down 18 rebounds.
Â
"Isabelle is a team captain and has been very involved in not only our community service outreach opportunities, but also is someone who gives 100% every time she is on the court for her team. She is a selfless leader that loves her teammates, wants to see them succeed and loves being a Fighting Saint. She epitomizes every quality that a Champion of Character represents in the way she approaches her academics, practice, games and being a leader on and off the court for her teammates." said Head Coach
Rachelle Sayers. Â
Â
Â
On the Men's Side,
James Lang is the Men's Basketball Champion of Character.
Lang is also a redshirt junior, hailing from Portland, Ore. and is continually among the team leaders in GPA while majoring in Accounting & Strategic Finance.
Â
Lang has been a steady presence for the Fighting Saints, providing veteran leadership on a young team. This past season, Lang finished second on the team in scoring, averaging a career-best 11.5 points per game. He scored a career-high 25 points in Carroll's season-opening win over Bushnell, and averaged career-bests in field goal percentage and three-point percentage.Â
Â
""James has been an integral part of the culture at Carroll and has withstood three coaching transitions with the type of character that this award aims to highlight. He is diligent, responsible, and has been a servant-leader for the group since I met him in the interview process. James is stellar in the classroom, court, and community. He is truly a great Fighting Saint." said Head Coach Dan Pearson.
