Saints Split First Day Doubleheader at Bushnell

EUGENE, Ore. –  The Carroll College Softball team hit the road for a doubleheader against Bushnell University on Friday afternoon, securing a 6-1 win in the first game before falling 9-1 in a shortened six-inning run-rule in the second.

Game 1: CC 6, BU 1

Carroll set the tone early and built momentum throughout the game, topping Bushnell 6-1 in the first matchup at Rich Schwab Field. A three-run seventh inning sealed the victory for the Saints, pushing their record to 6-11.

The Saints' bats came alive, tallying eight hits, including doubles from Kati Slater (Yamhill, Ore. / JR), Kenna Thomas (Belgrade, Mont. / SR), and Morgan Sunchild (Great Falls, Mont. / SR). Brookelynn Jackson (Keizer, Ore. / SO) delivered a crucial two-run triple, while Sunchild added two RBI's to the stat sheet. The Saints plated runs in four different innings, demonstrating their ability to manufacture offense.

On the mound, Kennedy Venner (Billings, Mont. / JR) delivered a dominant performance, tossing seven innings while allowing just one earned run on four hits. She struck out nine batters and issued only one walk to keep Bushnell's offense at bay.

Game 2: CC 1, BU 9 (6 Innings)

In the second contest, the Saints couldn't carry over their offensive success, falling 9-1 to Bushnell. Carroll managed just two hits and one run, coming in the third inning, as Bushnell's pitching held the lineup in check.

Carroll's only run came on an RBI groundout from Brynn Notbohm (Miles City, Mont.), while Thomas contributed one of the two hits. Abbie Amend (Spokane, Wash. / JR)  took the loss on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings while allowing seven earned runs on five hits and six walks. Mckinley Ermshar (Battleground, Wash. / FR) entered in relief but was unable to stop Bushnell from adding to their lead.

With the split, Carroll moves to 6-12 on the season and will look to bounce back in Saturday's doubleheader to wrap up the series.
