BILLINGS, Mont. - The Carroll College Men's Basketball team led coast to coast in a 95-77 win over Rocky Mountain College at the Fortin Center in Billings on Saturday.
The Fighting Saints (9-13, 4-5) stopped their two-game skid, never allowing the Battlin' Bears (15-7, 4-5) to grab a lead in another commanding win in the season series.
Both teams would exchange layups in the opening minute of Saturday's game, but the following 39 minutes of game time would slant well in favor of the Fighting Saints. Carroll quickly grew a double-digit lead, going on a 10-0 run over the next two minutes.
For the remainder of the first half, Carroll would have an answer for any potential Rocky run. The Bears would trim Carroll's lead to as little as five points on three separate occasions, but the Saints were just too efficient to be slowed down.
Carroll shot 60 percent from the floor, and went 9-10 from the free throw line as they exploded for 50 first half points. Saturday was just the third time this season the Saints have scored 50 or more points in the first half, and was the first time they've done so since their January 16 win over the Bears in Helena.
Isaiah Moore (Fairfield, Calif. / JR) played his best half of the season, leading all players with 17 points on 6-8 shooting in the opening 20 minutes.
Just three minutes into the second half, the Carroll lead had ballooned to 23 points following an
Isaiah Crane (Portland, Ore. / R-FR) three-pointer. The 15-5 run by the Saints to open the half would effectively seal the win, as Rocky struggled to dent the lead at all.
The Saints would lead by as much as 24 in the second half, never letting the lead dip below 16 as they ran away with the lopsided win.
Rocky won the rebounding battle by a wide margin, pulling down 39 boards to Carroll's 25, while also giving up one fewer turnover. Making shots is the name of the game, however, and Carroll went 54 percent from the floor as a team (31-57) while the Bears finished at just 39 percent on the afternoon (29-74).
Moore finished his big game as the leading scorer with 26 points, while the pair of Jesuit HS products
James Lang (Portland, Ore. / R-JR) and
Isaiah Crane (Portland, Ore. / R-FR) each scored 11.
Kellen Harrison (Bozeman, Mont. / FR) had another good game, finishing with 14 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals.
Rocky's Omari Nesbit led the Bears with 14 points in the loss, while three others finished with 11 points each (Robinson, Erickson, Jourdan).
The Saints will have a bit of rest before hosting MSU-Northern at the PE Center on Thursday at 7 p.m., as they look to finish the season strong and push for a top seed in the upcoming Frontier tournament.
