Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 15 Carroll Men Rebound With Day Two Win at Cactus Classic

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Coming off a loss in the Cactus Classic opener last night, the No. 15-ranked Carroll Men's Basketball team bounced back with a 84-70 win over Embry-Riddle on Thursday evening at the Coyote Center.

While Wednesday's opener was the worst shooting night of the year for the Fighting Saints (9-2, 7-0), Thursday's win saw a much more productive team effort as the Saints shot 59 percent from the field in the 14-point win over the Eagles.

Tight throughout the first ten minutes, the game broke in favor of the Saints in the back half of the opening stanza. Trailing by one with 10:13 left in the first, Carroll went on a 25-12 run to take control of the game. Isaac Round (Northampton, England / SO) and Isaiah Crane (Portland, Ore. / R-SO) each poured in 11 first half points, going 5-6 from three point range to lead the charge in a half that saw the Saints shoot 68 percent from the floor (15-22) and 73 percent from beyond the arc for a 45-38 lead at the half.

Round and Crane continued their strong play in the early stages of the second half, as the Saints' lead ballooned to as large as 22. The Eagles would make a run towards the end of the game, but the rally would be far to little to overcome the focused Carroll effort, as the Saints walked away with the 84-70 win.

Several big time performances were key to the Carroll victory, none more so than the game-high 25-point effort from Isaac Round. The sophomore was a difference-maker, shooting 70 percent from range (7-10 3PT). Drew Jones (Puyallup, Wash. / FR) had another big night, continuing his strong recent play with 18 points, going 4-4 from three-point range. Crane added 17 points and four rebounds to round out the Saints with 10 or more points.

Carroll was extremely efficient from distance, shooting an incredible 65 percent from beyond the arc (15-23), their best mark since a 60 percent effort against Providence in February.

Following a day of rest, the Saints will close out their week with a Top-15 showdown against No. 4 Arizona Christian on Saturday at 12 p.m.
