MEDFORD, Ore. - With their sights set on a Cascade Collegiate Conference postseason tournament title, the Carroll Men's Soccer team moved one step closer with a 3-1 quarterfinal win over seventh-seeded Oregon Tech on Saturday evening at Wheeler Field.
After finishing second in the regular season, the Fighting Saints (12-2-2) know that they need to just keep winning if they want to compete in the NAIAÂ Men's Soccer Championship for the second-straight year. They picked up their sixth-straight win on Saturday, topping the Hustlin' Owls to keep their season going.
Alfie Snow (Middlesbrough, England / SR), fresh off a Second Team All-Conference selection, got things started with a bang. The lanky forward beat the Owls' keeper just mere seconds into the match, giving Carroll an instant 1-0 advantage.
In the 67th minute, Oregon Tech made things interesting, evening the match at 1-1 on a bizarre sequence in which a shot ricocheted into the sky, then spun hard off the turf with english to get past
Juan Muniz Navarrete (Hermiston, Ore / GR).
The match didn't stay even for long, as Snow scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season from the left side of the box just one minute later - a goal that would prove to be the game-winner.
Helena native
Josiah Bibeau provided the dagger for the Saints in the 82nd minute, burying a long shot into the top-left corner to give Carroll a 3-1 lead that would not be relinquished.
The Saints will now await the results of the other quarterfinal matches before learning who their Monday evening semifinal matchup will be against.
