DICKINSON, N.D. - After dropping the conference-opener, the No. 14-ranked Carroll Women raced away with a big-time 66-40 win at Dickinson State on Friday evening at Soctt Gymnasium.
The Fighting Saints (2-2, 1-1) came out of the gates hot, racing to their biggest first quarter lead of the season at 25-14 over Dickinson State.
Meagan Karstetter (Moses Lake, Wash. / SR) got things going for the Saints early, and they never looked back in a 26-point win over the Blue Hawks on Friday.
Willa Albrecht (Billings, Mont. / R-SR) added 10 first quarter points, as the Saints raced out to an early 25-14 lead.
Dickinson State trimmed the lead to as little as five in the second, but the house-mates Karstetter, Albrecht and
Avery Kraft (Helena, Mont. / R-FR) did well to extend the Saints' lead back out to 34-25 at the halftime break following a string of buckets to end the opening half.
Karstetter, who put up a season-high 10 points in the win, opened the second half strong for Carroll - scoring the first four points of the frame to help set the tone for the runaway Carroll victory.Â
Neither team did much scoring in the third, but Carroll extended their lead with an 11-7 third quarter effort.
Kennedi Niemann (Cody, Wyo / R-SO) and Kraft made sure the Saints didn't slide back in the final quarter of play, combining for 10 of the first 14 points in the fourth, helping Carroll roll to a lopsided 66-40 win to even their Frontier record.
Four Saints scored in double-figures, led by Albrecht's game-high 16 points.
Avery Kraft had her best game as a Saint, finishing with 13 points, while Karstetter and
Jillian Kanduch (Miles City, Mont. / FR) each added 10.
After a pair of losses that saw the Saints struggle from the floor, Carroll finished the win at nearly 44 percent as a team from the field.
Tomorrow night at 4 p.m. they'll look to build some momentum, as they take on Bismarck State for the first time in program history.
