Carroll Men Even Things Late, Fall in OT of CCC Championship

MEDFORD, Ore. - 90 minutes simply wasn't enough to decide the 2025 Cascade Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Championship, as the second-seeded Carroll Men fought hard but ultimately fell 2-1 in overtime to fourth-seeded Warner Pacific on Wednesday afternoon at Wheeler Field.

For the second-straight season, the Fighting Saints (13-3-3) saw their run at the program's first CCC Tournament title fall short in the championship match - this time, a heart-breaking overtime loss at the hands of the Knights (14-4-2).

As one might expect, the early stages of Wednesday's title bout was a feeling-out process for both sides. Neither Carroll nor Warner Pacific could find much to work with, as both backline's were stout throughout.

The match entered the halftime break in a scoreless draw, with both teams managing just four total shots on goal.

The defensive battle continued for much of the second half, until the Knights found a window of opportunity in the 75th minute. A counter-attack provided Warner Pacific with numbers heading into the Carroll third, and a string of shots would ensue. Following multiple blocked shots, Warner Pacific's Bryan Carmona managed to beat Carroll's defenders and Juan Muniz Navarrete (Hermiston, Ore. / GR), giving the Knights a 1-0 lead with just 15 minutes to play.

From there, Carroll upped the pressure.

In the 82nd minute, the Saints got numbers in the WPU box. An errant pass nearly led to a Knights goal kick, but Alfie Snow (Middlesbrough, England / SR) did well to keep the ball in play, floating a high pass across the net. Waiting on the other side, Felix Billard (Mallorca, Spain / JR) converted one of the most beautiful strikes in Carroll history - burying a bicycle kick into the left side of the net to even the match at 1-1.

In the overtime period, a free kick was awarded to the Knights just outside the left side of the Carroll box. Sergio Varlea played an arching ball in, riding the wind, and Bryan Sanguino's header would put a sudden end to both the match, and Carroll's hopes for a tournament title.

With the win, the Knights secured the second of two CCC automatic qualifier sports to the upcoming NAIA Championship. Carroll will now await the results of the NAIA selection committee, hoping to hear their names called as an at-large berth to the national tournament.
