HELENA, Mont. - The (RV) Carroll College Men's Soccer team kept their unbeaten conference record on Saturday, battling back from an early deficit to pick up a 3-1 win over (RV) Southern Oregon on Valley Bank Field at Nelson Stadium.
The Fighting Saints (7-1-1, 5-0) rallied after an early setback, coming out of an important midseason weekend with six points following their win over the Raiders (8-2-1, 3-2).
Southern Oregon was the first to strike on Saturday, getting on the board early with a goal in the fifth minute by Irwin Leon, forcing Carroll to respond.
The Saints responded, and did so in a big way.
Southern Oregon's Tristan Skeritt was shown a red card midway through the first half, forcing the Raiders to play a man down the remainder of the game.
2024 CCC Offensive Player of the Year
Felix Billard (Mallorca, Spain / JR) evened the match at 1-1 in the 27th minute, scoring his second goal of the season on a penalty kick.
Neither side would find another goal in the first half, a frame that saw 17 total shots between the two teams (SOU 7, CC 10).
Coming out of the halftime break, it was Carroll who would grab an early advantage.
Sam Loughton (East Yorkshire, England / JR) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season off an assist from
Enrico Paparelli (Sao Paulo, Brazil / R-SO) to put the Saints in front 2-1.
Pedro Rivera (Mexico City, Mexico / FR) gave Carroll a much-needed insurance goal in the 53rd minute. The defenseman netted Carroll's third goal of the game off an assist from Justus Hermann (Weil am Rhein, Germany / SO) to give the Saints all the breathing room they would need.
Juan Muniz Navarrete (Hermiston, Ore. / GR) was as impressive as ever, recording four saves in the win.
Thursday night the Saints will look to claim the sole spot at the top of the CCC table, as they host fellow unbeaten Eastern Oregon at 7:30 p.m.
