HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Soccer teams are headed to Great Falls this afternoon for a one-off road contest with Providence at the Argos Field with the Women starting at 1 p.m. and the Men at 3:30 p.m.
With the odd number of soccer teams in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, one school is designated as a lone wolf each season without a built in travel partner for doubleheaders. This year, the Argos are the CCC Wolf, and the Fighting Saints will head North for the annual meeting.
The Carroll Women (3-4-4, 1-4-2) are on a three-game skid, but have reason for optimism following a strong second half performance in their last game.
The Saints gave the No. 5 team in the NAIA all they could handle last Saturday, coming up just short in their comeback bid against College of Idaho.
A team plagued with injuries throughout the lineup, the Saints will need a strong effort over the final three weeks of the season if they hope to once again punch their ticket to the CCC Championship later next month. Entering the week, Carroll sits 11th in the CCC table, with only the top eight teams qualifying for postseason play.
Carroll has won the last 11 meetings between the two schools, and hope a victory on Thursday could help kick-start a late-season run.
The Carroll Men are currently second in the CCC standings, and enter the game after a disappointing pair of results last week in Helena. The Saints fell to Eastern Oregon on Thursday, and were spurned by a corner-kick header with just seconds remaining in the first half of a 1-1 draw against College of Idaho on Saturday.
While the results weren't what they hoped for, the Saints remained in the receiving votes portion of the latest NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Poll, released earlier this week.
Much like the Women, the Carroll Men have a sizable winning-streak over the Argos heading into Thursday, having won each of the last five meetings dating back to 2021.
