HAVRE, Mont. - The Carroll Men's Basketball team picked up their second-straight Frontier Conference win of the season, earning an 80-58 win over MSU-Northern at the Armory Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Fighting Saints (7-11, 2-3) appear to have found their rhythm, notching their second win of the week in impressive fashion over the Lights (6-12, 0-4).
Northern opened the game on a quick 7-0 run, feeding off of the energy of a good-sized home crowd and by the 16-minute mark, the Lights held an eight point lead. Similar to Thursday's game against Rocky, the Saints stayed the course, battling back to even things up at 24-24 midway through the first half.
The Saints found point after point inside the painted area to start the first half, not even attempting a three-point shot until the seven-minute mark in the frame. Both teams exchanged buckets throughout the first 20 minutes, but a 10-2 run over the final two minutes of the half would see Carroll carry a 45-37 lead at the break.
Carroll did everything right on the opening stanza. The Saints heavily out-rebounded Northern in the first half (CC 16, MSUN 5), while seeing production all throughout the lineup offensively. Eight different Saints scored in the first half, with
Derek Kramer (Bellevue, Wash. / JR),
Kellen Harrison (Bozeman, Mont. / FR) and
Murat Guzelocak (Istanbul, Turkey / R-SR) each scoring at least eight points.
Coming out of the break, the Lights trimmed the Carroll lead to as little as five at the 17-minute mark, but that would be all the closer they would get the remainder of the game, as Carroll broke the game wide open shortly after.
The Saints shot 57 percent from the floor in the second half (16-28), while holding the Lights to just 24 percent (6-25). Again, Carroll dominated the glass, doubling up the Lights' 11 boards and finishing the game with a 38-16 advantage in total.
Isaiah Crane (Portland, Ore. / R-FR) went 4-4 from the floor, adding nine points to his final tally and Carroll would coast to the lopsided road win, 80-58.
Crane's 15 points matched Northern's Leon Sayers IV for a game-high, while both Harrison and Guzelocak put together their best scoring nights of the season with 14 points each. Harrison added three steals, while Guzelocak flashed his court vision with three assists in addition to three boards.
Derek Kramer finished one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 12 and pulling down nine rebounds in the win.
Now officially on a win-streak, the Saints will look to keep things rolling as they host Montana Western next Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Carroll College PE Center.
