AUSTIN, Texas - College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced Tuesday the 2023-24 Academic All-America® Volleyball teams for NCAA Division I-II-III and NAIA.
Julia Carr of Carroll College has been named a Second Team NAIA Academic All-American.
Academic All-American is a title reserved for
college student-athletes who perform at an
elite level in their
chosen sport and in the
classroom. The all-time list of 40,000+ Academic All-Americans includes major sports stars and some of the world's most accomplished individuals in medicine, business, science and the arts. Established in 1952 and selected by
College Sports Communicators (CSC), Academic All-America is the longest running and premier award for
athletic and academic success across championship college sports at all
NCAA levels, the
NAIA,
two-year colleges and
Canadian institutions.
Julia Carr (Portland, Ore. / SR) has put together one of the most impressive careers in Carroll Volleyball program history, and will now cap her stellar time as a Fighting Saint with one of the top honors in collegiate athletics, Academic All-American.
Over the past five seasons, the defensive specialist has been outstanding, totaling 3255 total digs (6.43 digs per set). Both marks are program records. Carr was a three-time Frontier All-Conference First Team selection, with second-team selection a year ago. She has been an Academic All-Conference selection four times, a nine-semester member of the Dean's list, and four-time NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete.
Earlier this season, Carr finished her second-straight season leading the NAIA in digs per set (7.0), while also leading the nation in total digs (840). Her outstanding on-court performance garnered her Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors, Honorable Mention AVCA All-American, and a First Team All-Frontier selection.
Carr carries a 3.86 GPA in Computer Information Systems, and has continually been among the highest GPAs on the Volleyball in her time at Carroll.
Carr becomes only the second CSC Academic All-American selection in Carroll Volleyball program history, joining
Jenna Starke, who was named Second Team Academic All-American in 2019.
Nominating and voting for Academic All-America® is an exclusive right of College Sports Communicators members.
The NAIA Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NAIA national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 NAIA Academic All-America® program.
