HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll Men's Soccer Team played NCAA Division II opponent MSU Billings to a 2-2 draw at Nelson Stadium on Thursday evening.
The Yellow Jackets played buzz kill to the Fighting Saints' (0-1-1) aspirations of their first victory of the 2024 season on Thursday, matching Carroll with a pair of goals in a 2-2 draw.
Carroll found themselves in a hole very quickly. Just two minutes into the game, So Nagano beat the Carroll keeper to give the 'Jackets a quick 1-0 advantage on the road.
In the 22nd minute,
Sean Balen (Mukilteo, Wash. / SO) blasted a free kick from just outside of the box into the corner of the net to even the game at 1-1 with his first goal of the young season.
Alfie Snow (Middlesbrough, England / JR), flashed his playmaking ability just four minutes later. The crafty forward snuck one past the keeper with quick reflexes on a hot pass in the box from
Felix Billard (Mallorco, Spain / SO), and Carroll would go on top 2-1.
MSU Billings' Geroge Jones would find an equalizer in the 30th minute, however, scoring in a scrum following a corner kick.
A chippy first half resulted in four cards being shown, but just one card was given in the second.
Neither team could find the break-through goal in the second half, and the game would end in a 2-2 draw.
Mathias Gravesen (Copenhagen, Denmark / JR) notched three saves in his first start of the season in-between the pipes for the Saints.
Next weekend, the Saints will find themselves in California for a pair of games before the start of CCC play begins at the end of the month.
